Trip Highlights

The Accommodation

Nestled in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park, EcoCamp Patagonia offers a unique and sustainable lodging experience that blends comfort with immersion in nature. Staying in its signature geodesic domes, inspired by the ancient dwellings of the region’s indigenous Kawésqar people, allows you to sleep under a blanket of stars while surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas. Each dome is thoughtfully designed with cozy bedding, insulated walls, and skylight windows that invite the natural beauty of Patagonia inside.

You can choose from a range of accommodations, from standard domes for a rustic, close-to-nature experience to luxury suites with private bathrooms and wood-burning stoves.

The camp’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its eco-friendly infrastructure, which relies on renewable energy and minimizes environmental impact. After a day of adventure, relax in the welcoming communal spaces, enjoy delicious locally inspired meals, and share stories with fellow travelers—all while immersed in one of the world’s most awe-inspiring landscapes.

The Location

Considered by some as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, Torres del Paine is a 700 square mile National Park near the southern tip of Chile in the Patagonia region famous for its’ towering granite peaks, mountain lakes, ice blue glaciers, and river valleys. It’s one of the largest and most visited parks in Chile.

The Mountains

There are several unique and beautiful major mountains that make up the Paine Massif in the park, the most iconic being the three jagged granite towers. Paine means blue in native language; Torres means towers. The three towers rise up to 2800m / 9200’ above sea level and are named Torre Sur, Torre Central, and Torre Norte. The high point in the park is Paine Grande at 3050m / 10,000 feet.

The Glaciers

Patagonia is full of massive, icy glaciers, with the main attraction on our adventure being the Grey Glacier at 270 square km / 104 square miles. The Patagonian Southern Ice Field is the second largest ice field in the world.

The Lakes

There are many large glacial lakes within Torres del Paine, with many having a strong turquoise color due to glacial erosion and deposits. We’ll be visiting both large and small lakes including Grey Lake, which is fed by the Grey Glacier, Sarmiento Lake, Pehoe Lake, and Laguna Azul.

FAQs

  • Our launching point is from Puerto Natales, Chile. Punta Arenas is a port city in Southern Chilean Patagonia.

It’s common to fly from the U.S. through Miami, then to Santiago, Chile, and then to Puerto Natales.

We’ll have everyone fly in to Puerto Natales the day before the adventure begins and book rooms for everyone at a nice hotel in the city, where we’ll meet for a welcome dinner. The following morning, we’ll be transported by a private van or bus up to our base camp at EcoCamp Patagonia. Once in Chile, all your transportation is prearranged and covered.

Travel insurance is required for the trip and should include coverage for trip cancellation or delay, baggage loss, medical expenses, and evacuation. There are many options in the marketplace. We will help you select the right insurance for you as part of our inclusive pre-trip planning services.

For information on travel advisories and restrictions in Chile, go to the U.S. Embassy website.  In addition, we check in frequently with our staff in Chile on what's happening on the ground in the country and keep our members updated as their trip approaches.

A valid passport is required for entering Chile.

  • We recommend guests come prepared with a moderate fitness level that will allow you to comfortably hike for 6-8 hours and engage in a mix of outdoor activities. Acclimatization is a non-issue on this trip, as we will not ever be at an elevation that could cause issues with altitude sickness.

If you have questions about whether you are at an appropriate fitness level to join, reach out to speak with our guides. We also provide training and coaching plans to help support you in preparing for this adventure.

All activities included on the itinerary are optional.

  • Once you are registered, we will provide you with a list of gear needed for this trek.  It's best to buy everything you need several months in advance of your trip so you can test everything out.

Remember, not all gear lists are perfect or comprehensive. Our gear list will have suggestions of the major items you will need. Part of the reason why there are so many gear options out there is that we all have slightly different anatomy.  What works for us may not work for you.  Go out on your own mini-expeditions and train in your gear to break it in and determine if it will work for you. If you get blisters at home in a pair of boots, you’ll get them on this trip too.

  • To confirm your reservation, a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total trip cost is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than 90 days prior to the trip start date. Accepted payment methods include check, credit card, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

    Cancellation Policy

    • Deposits are non-refundable under all circumstances.

    • Cancellations made 60 or more days prior to the trip start date may be eligible for a partial refund, subject to administrative fees and any unrecoverable costs.

    • Cancellations made within 60 days of the trip start date are not eligible for a refund. However, we may offer a credit toward a future trip or expedition.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances that may require trip cancellation.
